Aces
N Sevens - A Winning Hand in Ontario
It's true - the book for Aces N Sevens filled at 217
mares in 2003. Many astute breeders have already booked their
mares to this wonderful new stallion, and we anticipate that Aces N Sevens
will attract an even stronger book of mares in 2004.
And why not?
Aces N Sevens has everything you could ask for in a sire ... racing ability
at all ages ... true soundness (not one cryo mark on this guy) ... conformation
... attitude ... intelligence ... and bloodlines as desireable and futuristic
as they come. And the $2,500 stud fee? You will not find better value
anywhere in North America - get it while the getting's good.
Read on about Aces N Sevens (or "Aces", as we know him) and
book your mare today.
"Aces"
at the Races
Trained by Robert
Baggitt at two and three, Aces N Sevens qualified at the
Meadowlands in June as a 2-year-old (1:57.2 & 1:57.4), flashing final
1/4's in 27 seconds. He raced to a 14 - 7-4-0 ($248,839) summary as a
2-year-old, and took a 1:52.1 mile mark
... a 1:52.2f
5/8's mark (the 1999 Season's
Record, and Dover Downs track record still) ... and a 1:55.1h
1/2-mile record. He was the winner of the Governors Cup (1:52.1)
Matron (1:52.2f) and Battle of Freehold elims, the NJSS leg and Final
(at both Garden State Park and Freehold Raceway) and the NJ Futurity.
Aces N Sevens finished second in the $224,300 Matron S. (to Powerful Toy),
the $161,952 Battle of Freehold (to Tyberwood) and 2 NJSS. His racing
exploits resulted in Aces N Sevens being voted New Jersey 2yo colt of
the year for 1999 (over Astreos).
Impressive - but not the whole story.
There were only three races in which Aces N Sevens did not win or finish
second. The first was the $100,000 NJSS Final at the Meadowlands. In that
race, he made his only break of the year and finished 8th. The next week
he won - parked first-over - in 1:53.2.
One month later at Freehold, Aces and David Miller were too eager coming
out of the 4-hole at the half, interfering with a horse (that was fading)
on the outside. Aces finished 2nd, but was placed 8th for the error. In
his next start at Freehold -the precocious colt cut the mile in 1:55.1h
and beat Riverboat King (among others) by 7 lengths in the Battle of Freehold
elim.
After winning his elimination (1:52.1) of the Governor's Cup, 'Aces' drew
the dreaded 9-hole in the $572,400 Final. He was parked to a 26.4 first
quarter before getting the lead ... pushed to the half in 54.2 ... and
even though he paced his mile in 1:52.3 - he didn't get a cheque.
'Aces' bounced back the following week to take a 1:52.2f record at Dover
Downs - a track record that still stands 4
years later! In the Matron Final, "Aces" was
parked to a 26.3 quarter and cut the mile, only to get picked off by Powerful
Toy in the closing strides.
As a 2-year-old, Aces N Sevens did it all. He cut miles and beat them.
He went parked first-over and beat them. From off the pace, he came the
last 3/4's in 1:23 and beat them. And he beat them with five different
drivers (Miller, Manzi, Ouellette, Christoforou and Campbell).

As a 3-year-old, Aces N Sevens finished 2nd in his first start,
coming his last 3/4's in 1:23.4 only to get photo'd out in 1:52. In his
first 16 starts, he raced to a summary of 16 - 3-2-8 while beating Astreos,
Gallo Blue Chip, Camotion, Powerful Toy, The Firepan and Tyberwood. He
always showed up 'on his game' - but Lady Luck would turn away when it
mattered most.
After finishing a head back in the North America Cup elimination (1:51.1),
"Aces" drew the 8-hole in the Final and sat second-last throughout
the $1,000,000 mile. Any follower of Woodbine racing knows how difficult
it is for a horse to come from the back - but Aces N Sevens gave it his
best. He paced his last half in 54 seconds and closed 7 lengths with an
astounding 26.3 last quarter, yet lost by 3 diminishing lengths - and
went home penniless.
In his next start - the Meadowlands Pace elimination, "Aces"
paced his last 3/4's in 1:22.2 to finish a head back in the 1:50.3 mile,
beating Astreos and Camotion among others. The $1,000,000 Final found
Aces N Sevens on top in 26.4, then hooked up in a memorable speed dual
with Tyberwood (Ritchie Silverman) to a 53.4 half - where Tyberwood bore
in and interfered with "Aces", knocking him offstride. Still,
Aces N Sevens recovered to get 4th in that mile.
Aces N Sevens consistently overcame obstacles placed in his way.
The week after the Meadowlands Pace, he flew a last half in 53.1 to finish
2nd in the NJSS - rocketing
past Riverboat King with a last quarter in 25.4!!!
Then despite being parked from the 9-hole (in 26.4) as the favourite in
the Oliver Wendell Holmes, Aces N Sevens lost by just 3/4 length in 1:50.3
- again defeating Camotion, Riverboat King and The Firepan. One week later
he wired the Freehold NJSS in 1:55h.
Even Lady Luck could not stand in the way of Aces N Sevens in the $500,000
Hoosier Cup. Cat Manzi took the Cams Card Shark colt back to 8th to the
half, before moving up third-over on the outside. Gallo Blue Chip breezed
through the early fractions (26; 54.2; 1:22.4) - with Astreos in the 'garden
spot' - and Aces N Sevens was still sixth at the top of the lane. But
with ferocious fury, "Aces" flew through the lane to beat a
top field that included Gallo Blue Chip (3rd), Astreos (5th), The Firepan
(4th) and Riverboat King (7th).
The 1:50.3 track record at Hoosier
was no 'fluke', as Aces N Sevens paced his own last half in 54.2 and simply
'mowed them down' in the stretch. Winners of the Hoosier Cup include Perfect
Art (1:51) ... Dragon Again (1:51.3) ... Arts Conquest
(1:51.2) ... Real Desire (1:53) ... and Art Major (1:50.4)
- but Aces N Sevens still holds the stake
record in that prestigious race.
Aces N Sevens
would later add the NJ Futurity (1:54.1h)
to his list of 3-year-old accomplishments - in a year that saw him pace
in 1:55 or faster in all 21 of his
starts ... 14 in 1:53 ... 11
in 1:52 ... and 5 in 1:50.4 or better.

Aces N Sevens romping
in the paddock
As an older horse, Aces N Sevens was trained by Steve Elliott for a short
period of time, before being turned over to Ray Remmen to finish out his
career. At four, he equaled his 1:50.3 lifetime
best, and lowered his half-mile track record to 1:52.4h
- while defeating solid older horses like Camotion, Armbro Positive and
Space Shuttle.
Aces N Sevens began his last season of racing in January 2002, pacing
four sub-1:52 miles over the 5/8ths track at Pompano Park. From April
to July, Aces N Sevens made 14 starts in Open and high Conditioned company
at the Meadowlands, lowering his mark to 1:50.1
on April 20, 2002.
In June, "Aces" began a skein that would see him pace five
sub-1:50 miles in 8 races (he miscued in the other three).
Reunited with David Miller (who had
driven "Aces" to all of his 2001 and 2002 wins), Aces N Sevens
lowered his record to 1:48.4, winning
by 5 lengths with a 1:21 final 3/4's.
One week later, Miller brought favourite Aces N Sevens first-up against
Armbro Proposal and finished 2nd - just a 1/2 length behind in a 1:48.2
mile - with a 26.3 last quarter.
In his final lifetime race, Aces N Sevens was parked the whole way from
the 9-hole, came his last 3/4's in 1:21.1 and finished second - race-timed
in 1:49.2. That was August 3, 2002, and following that race he was quarantined
before traveling to Australia to begin his second career - as a stallion.
From his first start as a 2-year-old to the last race of his career, Aces
N Sevens exhibited lightning speed, soundness, versatility and determination.
Armed with the trademark qualities of the Cam Fella sire-line, Aces N
Sevens is destined to pass those characteristics on - to his offspring.

Aces N Sevens
"Aces"
In The Paternal Bloodlines
Australian breeders immediately saw the enormous potential that Aces N
Sevens carries in his bloodlines and performance. In his first year at
stud at Pepper Tree Farm
(also the Australian home of Jenna's Beach Boy,
and the outstanding Panorama), Aces N Sevens
bred a full book of 140 of Australia's top broodmares. This is not surprising
given Aces N Sevens' performance on the racetrack - and the prepotency
in his bloodlines. Take a look at his pedigree.

A son of Cams Card Shark, Aces N Sevens is a shining example of the hottest
sireline in harness racing. Cams Card Shark has produced a number of determined,
talented and extremely fast and sound performers. These have included
Bettors Delight, Royalflush Hanover, Riverboat King and of course Aces
N Sevens.
Aces N Sevens is the fastest son of Cams Card Shark to stand in Canada.
He is the second-fastest Cams Card Shark 2-year-old (to Bettors Delight)
and the second-fastest Cams Card Shark of any age (to Riverboat King)
- although Aces N Sevens was race-timed 2nd by a head in 1:48.2 the week
after he took his 1:48.4 lifetime mark.
Cam Fella - The Pacing & Siring Machine
Clearly a legend in his time, the ill-fated Cam
Fella graduated from his position as "The Pacing Machine"
to that of "The Siring Machine" before testicular cancer forced
him to be gelded at age 18 in 1997. He ultimately succumbed to cancer
in 2001 - at the age of 22.
From his first crop (Camtastic) to his last (Eternal Camnation), Cam Fella
was a sire for the ages - through sons like Camluck, Cambest, Precious
Bunny, Presidential Ball and Cams Card Shark. But of all the sons of the
immortal Cam Fella - Cams Card Shark stands poised to make the most prominent
mark on the future of the Standardbred bloodline.
And Aces N Sevens is a logical choice to carry the Cam Fella legacy forward.
Conformation, heart, pedigree, speed, determination, soundness, longevity
against the best in the sport, gate speed, come-from-behind ability. Aces
N Sevens has it all.
"Aces"
In The Maternal Bloodlines
No Nukes
has been the top broodmare sire in the world for the past two years, and
will eventually take over the position of the immortal Albatross as the
leading broodmare sire of all time. Aces N Sevens is out of the No Nukes
mare Latromis p, 1:57.3f, the dam of only four foals older than two, three
of which have taken sub-1:59 marks, including Racin For Angie p, 3, 1:55.4
(by Matts Scooter) - and of course Aces N Sevens.
Town Tramp p, 1:56.3h ($366,328) is Aces N Sevens' second dam. From the
second crop of Big
Towner, Town Tramp was one of the hardest-hitting mares of her times,
winning 28 races and earning her money the hard way - in the tough F&M
Open classes at Roosevelt and Yonkers.
As
a broodmare, Town Tramp has produced four $100,000+ winners, four in 1:55
and seven in 1:59, including JC's Suprimo p, 4, 1:50.4 ($487,797) - the
No Nukes full-brother to Latromis. Town Tramp has produced exceedingly
well when bred to Cambest (a son of Cam Fella) ... with Campus Tramper
p, 1:50 ($302,463) and Sonuva Best p, 1:51.3 ($125,818) to her credit.
Aces N Sevens' third dam is High Hope Bella - by Harold J. She produced
6 sub-1:59 performers by sires like Bonded Yankee and Naughty Yankee.
Harold J. has a reputation for providing longevity and durability, and
is the broodmare sire of Cambest. As the late John Bradley stated in his
"Modern Pacing
Sire Lines": "... don't underestimate the power of Harold
J. in a pedigree."
And don't underestimate
Aces N Sevens in your foals' pedigree.

Ray
Remmen on Aces N Sevens
Ray
Remmen
"First of all, let me say that I have
no problem at all talking about Aces N Sevens, and recommending him as
a stallion. Aces N Sevens is the nicest looking son of Cams Card Shark
I've ever seen.
"Aces N Sevens was an extremely sound horse throughout his career.
He wore a very long hopple and had a great gait and a tremendous attitude
both on and off the race track. He was a very intelligent horse and was
real nice to be around. He also had extremely high speed, which he could
use off the gate and from off the pace, and he always gave it his best.
"Aces N Sevens had the soundness, attitude, gait and extreme speed
that it takes to be a top sire - and I would not hesitate to recommend
him to breeders."
Robert
Baggitt on Aces N Sevens
"Aces N Sevens was
the soundest horse we've ever had. He was a super horse at two, and except
for some bad racing luck would have put a lot more money on his card.
At both two and three, he was sound, strong, flawlessly-gaited and had
a super attitude.
"Cat (Manzi) was very confident that Aces would win the Meadowlands
Pace, and tried to work out a 2-hole trip behind Gallo Blue Chip. But
Ritchie (Silverman) had other plans, and pushed Aces to a 53 half before
interfering with him. I remember saying to my wife "We're not getting
anything now", but Aces dug in and just got nipped for third.
"Without a doubt Aces N Sevens left a lot on the table because of
bad racing luck, but still he beat them all during his years in racing.
He was an extremely talented and determined horse and would never quit
trying. Aces N Sevens has everything it takes to be a good sire."
