Malabar Maple was an outstanding racehorse, earning over $500,000, highlighted by wins in the Zweig Memorial in a track record time of 1:53.2 and in the three-year-old New Jersey Sire Stakes Final at the Meadowlands, as well as finishing a strong third in the Hambletonian elimination, and fourth in both Breeders Crown Finals at two and three.
From only three crops of racing age, Malabar Maple has proven a solid sire. From his first crop of 85 foals, Malabar Maple produced multiple Grand Circuit winner Maple Sugar (winner of Robert Stewart at two and the Casual Breeze at three) and was the leading OSS starter behind Angus Hall and Striking Sahbra.
Also from his first crop he produced multiple WEG winners Twin B Rawley and Mignon, whose yearling full brother was purchased by Gordon Rumpel for $55,000 at Lexington.
Malabar Maple’s second crop included seven individual stakes winners headed by Silver Bar who won the $55,000 City of London, PC Moonshine 1:57.4f, and also In The Proverbials who was second in the $47,000 Middlesex Final.
Significant third crop performers included Mapley, who won a Grassroots division and was second in the Grassroots Final, Polished Maple, Mapleson who was second and twice third in Ontario Sire Stakes Gold eliminations, Kor Mel Lil Lady a winner in 2:00.3f and second in a Gold elimination, and Maplewood a winner and second in a Gold consolation.
From 167 foals of racing age, Malabar Maple has produced 66 winners, of which 19 are stake winners and 44 stakes placed performers.
In Australia from two small crops Malabar Maple has produced very well with six individual winners in 2008, this including the two-year-old Victoria Sires Stakes Champion Trottn On The Ritz and last season Breeders Crown third place finisher My Mate Mal.
